Description

Vivo is a brand with many options that cater to a budget-conscious audience, with the Y53s at a mid-range price among their range. The design of this device is similar to most of the smartphones from this era, kind of minimal with very narrow bezels. The backside has a machined design so the light plays on it and there is a square camera bump with rounded edges. For the selfie camera, there is a tiny notch on the front, so small that it is not in the way at all.

Vivo Y53s internals and OS

The processor that Vivo has given the Y53s is the MediaTek Helio G80 which is produced using the 12nm method. An octa-core processor that has 2 cores with a clock speed of 2.0GHz and another 6 that are at 1.8GHz; overall the performance is ample. Integrated into this is the Mali-G52 MC2 graphics processor. This GPU is able to handle games and even features such as augmented reality without crumbling within a decent time frame.

Tasking is handled by 8GB of RAM and there is also a feature that can add on another 4GB from the ROM if it is unused. This extension gives the Vivo Y53s quite a bit more power to perform functions. Storage is at 128GB with the option to add on more via a microSDXC card.

The base OS installed in this device is Android 11, a system that features machine learning which enables it to fine-tune its performance in reflection to the user's patterns. This means over the course of the initial few weeks the device is learning your usage style and then optimises itself to adapt to it. These adjustments are minute, but the cumulative effect is impressive.

Layered onto this base OS is Vivo's FunTouch OS 11.1. This is a super customisable user interface, there is an endless number of tweaks the user can make to just the lock screen. Other things include many themes, animation and icon customisations. All these help you create a more personalised digital space that you feel comfortable in.

Cameras and display

The main camera has a triple sensor array. The primary shooter is the 64MP f/1.8 that shoots a little wide, similar to a 28mm lens. The other two sensors are both 2MP f/2.4, one of these is for macro shots and the other handles depth sensing. Combined these allow for various shooting modes such as HDR, Pano, Bokeh and more. Video on this main side can be shot at 1080p with a frame rate of 30fps and has gyro-EIS so your shots are stable.

The selfie camera is at 16MP f/2.0 and can shoot video at 1080p with a frame rate of 30fps as well, but does not have gyro-EIS. Both sides produce good results with the AI optimising visuals so your pictures look good.

With a display that is at 6.58 inches and a resolution of 1080 x 2408 pixels, this is a FullHD screen. The pixel density at this resolution and size comes to 401 pixels per inch. With an IPS LCD panel, the display has ample brightness and one can enjoy their games on it.

Connectivity, sensors and battery

There are various systems built into this device so one has access to a set of wireless abilities. This includes WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and Data that is compatible up to the 4G standards. For physical connectivity, there is a USB Type-C 2.0 and a 3.5mm audio jack as well. The former can be used to transfer files and also features USB On-the-Go.

Feedback from various sensors is needed for the smartphone to function and this smartphone has an accelerometer, a compass, a gyro and a proximity sensor for these purposes. There is also a fingerprint reader that is mounted onto the side, this lets users unlock their device very fast, saving time when compared to inserting a pin or pattern.

With a 5000mAh battery, this device has more than ample power for your daily usage. Especially for users who only use it for regular things.
