Overview

A powerful mid-range phone from Oppo, the Reno 2F is full of features. With some specs that are better than the class it belongs to. The design is beautiful and the pop-up selfie camera is an interesting addition. The processor from MediaTek fused to the internals is from a starting line of flagship phones that cost a lot more. Overall a good buy for someone who has a slight budget constraint.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Good design

  • Powerful battery

  • Good cameras

  • Bright display

Description

Oppo is a famous brand that has done well in the budget-friendly market segment. A lot of models are geared for the younger generation as well, with a focus on cameras as that is a content creating need.

The brand has a lot of options in its catalogue, with the Reno 2F as one of them.

The Reno 2F

With the Reno 2F, Oppo has launched a great phone, packed with great features. The display is based on the crisp AMOLED technology that is bright and renders great visuals, with a 6.53-inch screen. The resolution is at 1080x2340 pixels and a pixel density of 396ppi. The aspects ratio on the Oppo Reno 2F is 19.5:9 with Gorilla Glass 5 from Corning to protect the phone. The graphics are powered by the Mali-G72 MP3, a separate chip specific to this task. The phone retained the 3.5mm audio jack, a great convenience as the world is still regularly using AUX cables.

Internals and OS

The chip powering the Reno 2F is the MediaTek Helio P70 which supports two quad-core processors running at 2.1GHz and 2GHz. To handle the tasking that takes place in all this there is a serious 8GB of RAM, which is a lot for a phone at this price point. Top-end phones have this amount of RAM to power their tasking. Even the 128GB built-in storage space is a spec from a higher range, with a dedicated SD card slot to increase it by a massive 256GB more. The OS is based on the Google Android platform with a layer of the proprietary Oppo ColorOS 6. The base being of Android 9 Pie means the phone has Machine Learning abilities and can pick up user patterns and optimise the phone so it works even faster over time.

Cameras on the Reno 2F

Loaded with a quad-camera set up on the rear, with the main lens at 48MP f/1.8 wide lens, an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide, a 2MP depth sensor and another 2MP lens. This set up has the ability to take many different kinds of images and also do well in lower light conditions. The front has a 16MP f/2.0 wide lens incorporated into a motorised pop-up camera. In combination with the camera app there is a whole range of shooting modes and settings that can be manipulated to get great shots.

Sensors, connectivity and battery

For the sensors, there is the full range including a proximity sensor, a fingerprint reader that is built into the screen, a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a compass. Connectivity has all the options as well, with the Type-C USB, Dual-SIM abilities, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC and GPS. The battery is a large 4000mAh capacity cell based on Li-Polymer, meaning it has a longer overall life and also can be made into a slimmer form factor.

A great phone for the price it is available at, with some specs from a higher price point. The Oppo REno 2F was launched in Sky White and Lake Green.
