Description

Oppo is a good brand for people who want good smartphones at a bit of a budget price, this works well for people who do not want to spend too much or for a younger generation as well. The brand belongs to the same stable as OnePlus, Realme and Vivo; all of which are owned by BBK Electronics. The Oppo F17 Pro, like most smartphones today, is also a Dual-SIM device.

Oppo F17 Pro Internals and OS

This device is built around the Mediatek Helio P95, an octa-core processor and built using the 12nm method. The clock speed for two cores is at 2.2GHz and for the rest of the six, it is at 2.0GHz, combined this provides a serious amount of performance. Integrated with this is the PowerVR GM9446 graphics processor and this chip is optimised for affordable gaming. To aid the tasking for these processors there is 8GB of RAM, which is a pretty decent amount. All this enables one to take on a good level of gaming or other tasks.

Storage is at 128GB and can be extended via a dedicated microSDXC slot.

The OS has been built on an Android 10 base, with the ColorOS 7.2. The base layer gives the system Machine Learning abilities that are optimising our digital world all the time. This means your smartphone will learn your patterns and then be able to pace itself up in reflection to how you use it. The ColorOS 7.2 has features such as Anti-Fragmentation, Super Power Saving Mode and also the Oppo Lap. The Anti-Fragmentation lets the device keep the virtual and physical memory as neatly organized as possible, this improves performance.

Oppo Lab is a feature that lets users down-vote or up-vote features, this creates consistent feedback that the Oppo team can use to optimise future OS versions.

Cameras and Display

The Oppo F17 Pro has a quad-lens setup for the main camera module. The first is a 48MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and shoots a bit wide. The secondary is an 8MP sensor that is for ultrawide shots and has an f/2.2 lens. The remaining two are both 2MP with f/2.4 lenses, one of these is for macro shots and the other is for depth sensing. The depth-sensing helps add more layers to one's images.

On the front there are two sensors, one is a 16MP f/2.4 and there is a 2MP f/2.4 sensor for adding depth. Both sides can shoot video at 1080p or 720p with a frame rate of 30fps. The rear camera can also shoot 4K at 30fps.

The camera app has multiple shooting modes such as professional mode, panorama mode, portrait, night mode, time-lapse photography, slow motion and more. This allows users to change up their styles and get the kinds of shots they want.

For viewing, one makes use of a 6.4-inch display that is based on Super AMOLED technology. With a high resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels that is FullHD. The AMOLED display with this resolution makes for a very crisp display with a high contrast ratio so colours are boosted. This display has Corning's Gorilla Glass 3+ on top to protect it. One's gaming and media is fun to consume on this kind of display where each detail is clearly visible.

Connectivity, Sensors and Battery

The only thing missing with the connectivity is NFC, other than that this device includes WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and Data. There is also a Type-C USB port that supports a reversible connection and also even has the USB On-The-Go feature. This feature lets one use the Oppo F17 Pro as a dock for portable thumb drives. One can also make use of the 3.5mm audio jack for their wired headphones of an AUX cable, this is the fastest way to connect even if a cable can be a bit limiting.

The Oppo F17 Pro has multiple sensors to provide important feedback to the various app and systems it runs. These include an accelerometer, a compass, a gyro and a proximity sensor. There is also a fingerprint reader that is embedded into the display that lets one unlock the smartphone in a jiffy.

To provide power to all the hardware that makes this device possible, there is a 4015mAh capacity cell based on Li-Polymer technology. It also features Fast Charging via 30 Watts.
