The popular snack that has been a signature to our local traditions and taste is commonly known as Nimko. The original recipe of this deep-fried, spicy and delicious snack food was created by Haji Muhammad Jan who migrated to Pakistan in 1948 from New Delhi, India. He established a Nimko shop with the help of his wife, who was an expert in using Arvi Kay Pattay in her cooking. The shop opened its doors with what is now known as a classic nimko recipe in 1950. With its roots in Gujrati cooking culture, Arvi Kay Pattay has special processing in nimko. Now known as the Nimco corner, the shop still exists as it has been handed down generation after generation with the same taste.

The taste of our local cuisine comes from the essential spices such as green and red chilli, Turmeric powder, Chakki flour, Arwi leaves, peas, peanuts and salt. The foundation of the nimko is the dough mixed in with the spices that are then thoroughly deep-fried with a generous helping of peanuts, peas and Arwi leaves.
