Mycitracin Description

Medical Ointment Cream

It can be purchased with a prescription by a physician. It is recommended that this ointment not be used to treat large areas of the skin. When experiencing a serious skin injury or infections including a deep cut, puncture wound, animal bite, severe burn, it is advised to seek medical help before using this treatment.

It is advised to not exceed 1 week of treatment and only prolong use should be supervised by your doctor. This is not for a baby's rash and should not be sued on irritated under the diaper area unless prescribed by the doctor.

Contains

Mycitracin is made from neomycin, bacitracin, and polymyxin. These are important agents to activate antibiotics stopping the spread of bacteria on the skin. It can only treat and heal bacterial skin infections and no other skin conditions. If the infection is caused by fungi and viruses please consult your local doctor for what ointment will work as Mycitracin will be ineffective in those cases.

Warning

It is important to consult your doctor before using this treatment as any history of allergy to neomycin, bacitracin, or polymyxin or to aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g., gentamicin, tobramycin) can cause side effects. It is important to share any allergic reaction history with your doctor as the inactive ingredients in Mycitracin can lead to side effects on the skin.

Directions

Before applying the ointment the skin should be cleaned and dried thoroughly, only applying it with washed hands as to avoid bacterial contact with the affected area. Apply 1 to 3 times in a day using only a thin layer that is gently rubbed in until absorbed completely. Remember to wash your hands afterwards and avoid touching your eyes, inside the nose or mouth when applying the ointment.
