The Maria B saree is included in the Unstitched Suit and MEmbroidery collections. The material used to create the design is chiffon, net, tissue, silk, jacquard organza and organza.
Classic Eastern Clothing
The saree is a piece of unstitched fabric that is wrapped in a particular style around the hips and draped across the shoulders creating an hourglass silhouette that looks glamourous and feminine. During the classical era of South Asia, women wore saree pieces not only on formal occasions with heavy embellishment and embroideries but also casual everyday versions of the same style. The Maria B collection of unstitched suits are also transformable into saree design.
Structure of a Saree
A fancy party wear saree dress will include a blouse that has an embellished neckline and sleeves. The traditional techniques to decorate a saree are Cutwork and Handwork embroideries. The Saree Pallu is a focal point of the saree as it draped across the chest and flows behind on one side of the body. This pallu is heavily embellished as it is the front of the saree while the running pallu has a thick border on one side that creates the dramatic symmetry of the outfit.
3 Piece Saree
The luxurious formal fabrics by Maria B are ideal for a wedding or bridal saree as they look elegant and regal. The saree is an iconic eastern design worn as a party dress and formal evening wear for events. The detailing on a saree is what makes it high end or mid-range price. The saree that has heavy gold embroideries, pure lace or net fabric with a scalloped pallu will be expensive as compared to a plain chiffon saree. Expensive fabrics like Sarhi are a combination of organza and jacquard organza that create a more structured saree that has a shine and glimmer woven into the fabric finishing. The petticoat and blouse have to be good fitting for the saree to drape well on the body. Maria B uses good quality Russian Grip fabric to create the petticoat of the saree of 3 meters to ensure it fits a wide range of body shapes and sizes. The embroidered saree pallu is 2.5 meters that will have close to the skin fitting.
There are also mid-range 2 piece saree designs that have the blouse built into the main saree pally and the second piece of fabric for the petticoat. These saree designs are net fabric with premade embroidered motifs on the borders and pallu paired with a raw silk petticoat. Maria B uses the heritage motifs of the scallop that is an arch-shape repeated to cut the fabric hemline creating stylish half circles on the border of the saree. These are highlighted with threadwork in different colours to create a beautiful tapestry of embroidered motifs. The saree is not entirely traditional as these heavy borders with innovative threadwork and designs are what make them feel fresh and modern without compromising on the classic silhouette.
The elegance of Maria B designs also translates into saree wear, these fabrics are heavily embellished with diamantes that are Italian on fabrics such as moonlight that look glamourous and expensive. The handcrafted embellishments are done carefully on the neckline in traditional heritage embroideries such as gota, silk thread and zarri. The foil weaved organza jacquard has traces of metallic threadwork that make the sari lace look ornamental and antique. The finishing accessories are what brings together the saree and make it look like a Maria B design as she includes expensive crystals and beads for buttons and tassels.
