Display & Design
The front and back of the phone are made of glass in an aluminium frame. The display is a 6.3-inch IPS LCD with 2340x1080 resolution. Despite being an LCD, it strangely misses out on peak brightness which is one of the key advantages of having an LCD. The brightness is good enough for indoors but once out in the daylight, the phone fails to go beyond a mediocre level of brightness.
Performance & Platform
Running an Android 8.1 (Oreo) operating system that is upgradable to Android 9.0 (Pie), the Huawei Nova 3 uses an Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 970 (10 nm) chipset. The phone gives a decent gaming performance as well as good processing speed but lags behind in terms of performance when compared to rivalling smartphones.
The Huawei Nova 3 is a 4-camera powerhouse with 24MP + 16MP dual AI-powered rear cameras and 24MP + 2MP dual AI-powered front cameras. The rear camera setup includes a 24 MP, 27mm (wide) shooter with an aperture of f/1.8 and a second 16 MP shooter, 27mm (wide) with an aperture of f/1.8. The rear also features a LED flash, HDR and panorama options and the cameras allow for shooting 4K videos at 30 frames per second, 1080p videos at 60fps and 1080p at 30fps. The front hosts a 24 MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.0, 26mm (wide) and 2 MP, depth sensor. It allows for shooting 1080p videos at 30 frames per second and has eight scene recognition modes.
Storage & RAM
The Huawei Nova 3 has a 4GB of RAM with an internal storage of 128GB extended up to 256 GB via microSD.
Battery & Charging
The phone is powered by a generous 3750 mAh battery and is capable of Fast battery charging with an 18W charger. Despite the fast charging support, the phone strangely doesn't get charged up fast enough. A full charge up would need 2 hours to charge this phone whereas efficient fast charging only requires an hour.
Connectivity & Sensors
The connectivity options on the Huawei Nova 3 are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and USB. Sensors on the camera feature the Infrared face recognition, fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass sensors.
