Started by David B. Shakarian as a  small health foods store in 1935. It was in the 1960s that the name General Nutrition Centers (GNC) came about, by this point there were a number of outlets. Today GNC still sells health and nutrition-related products.

GNC's catalogue includes all kinds of health-related products, all geared to optimise the mind and body. A complete range of products that include minerals, herbs, supplements and vitamins. There is a variety of sports-related nutrition as well such as protein shakes.

Various mixtures that are specific to bone and muscle strength. Women have a separate section, as do some parts that are specific to men. There are also products that cater to kids specifically.
