An oral rehydrating agent, Gatorade is a drink that is used often by athletes. Gatorade contains a mix that helps hydration and thus helps improve performance. A drink that is from a high price point, especially in Pakistan.

Created by a team of scientists in 1965 at the University of Florida College of Medicine, led by Robert Cade. The coach of their football team put in a request for a drink that would replenish his players, this led to the name as well; the team is known as the Gators. The team won their first Orange Bowl in 1967 while drinking Gatorade, this lead to it making a name.

Gatorade was bought by Stokely-Van Camp, Inc.; which was later acquired by the Quaker Oats Company. Today PepsiCo owns Gatorade, as it bought the Quaker Oats Company in 2001.

Gatorade's main ingredients

The ingredients that make up Gatorade include water, sugar, dextrose, citric acid, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, gum arabic, glycerol ester of rosin along with flavouring agents.

The sugars are labelled as carbohydrates, these help increase the speed of water absorption. The salts are electrolyte and are very much needed for rehydration.

Gatorade has proven effective over the years. The brand has garnered a lot of support and also sponsors a lot of teams and leagues, including AFL, NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, USA Basketball, NHL, Association of Volleyball Professionals, Indian Super League, High School Sports Teams, NASCAR, and other professional and collegiate athletics teams.

Drinking Gatorade too regularly can be harmful as it contains quite a bit of sugar. It has been known to make people gain weight and also cause dental issues.

Available in multiple flavours so one can choose the one they prefer. Gatorade is an expensive drink in Pakistan. This drink can also be found in powdered form which one can mix with water to make Gatorade.
