MacBook Pros are the most powerful and top tier Macintosh portable machines manufactured by Apple. The first line of Apple MacBook Pro was introduced in January 2006 as a replacement to Apple's PowerBook G4. This lineup came in 15 and 17-inch screen sizes whereas currently, Macbook Pro is available in 13- and 15-inch models. Based on specifications, Apple classifies its Macbook lineup into 4 generations.

On the outside, the first-generation MacBook Pro looks the same as its predecessor the PowerBook G4 but in place of the PowerPC G4 chips, it uses Intel Core processors instead.  Apple first introduced the 15-inch model in January 2006 and the 17-inch model was made available to the users in April. Later in the same year, Apple introduced Core 2 Duo processors along with several updates in both the models.

The second-generation of Apple MacBook Pro debuted on October 2008 and came to be known as the "unibody" model. It was launched in 13 and 15-inch screen sizes and showcased a precision aluminium unibody enclosure with tapered sides. A few months later, Apple announced another addition to the lineup, a 17-inch MacBook Pro with the same unibody construction. Subsequent updates led to the addition of Intel Core i5 and i7 processors in the 15 and 17-inch models along with the introduction of Intel's Thunderbolt technology while the 13-inch variant received speed increases in its Core 2 Duo processor.

The third generation of MacBook Pro saw the discontinuation of the 17-inch variant in the year 2012. The 15-inch, third iteration of MacBook became the first to feature a high-resolution Retina Display while being thinner and lighter than its predecessors. A 13-inch variant was later released in the same year.

The fourth-generation MacBook Pro was made available to the public on October 27, 2016. This generation came with several updates such as all data ports were replaced with USB-C and the function keys were replaced with an interactive touchscreen strip called the Touch Bar that came integrated with a Touch ID embedded in the power button. The latest Apple MacBook Pro in the lineup is a 15.4-inch Retina Display screen with a stunning 2,880 x 1,800 resolution.
